Audience Scale
A 10-year-old can follow the story through dialogue and core ideas. A 30-year-old finds the prose and systems engaging.
Prose Register
Narrative prose may operate at a higher register than dialogue. Primary reading level is 12+ (capable readers from age 10 can enter). Adult readers should feel respected, not talked down to.
Think early Philip Pullman or Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea: complex sentences are allowed when they serve rhythm and atmosphere.
